Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation, also known as respiratory rehabilitation, is an important part of the management and health maintenance of people with chronic respiratory disease who remain symptomatic or continue to have decreased function despite standard medical treatment.

The basic goals of pulmonary rehabilitation are:

  • To Optimize airway clearance
  • To improve symptoms
  • To restore functional capabilities
  • To enhance the overall quality of life

Chest Physiotherapy aka airway clearance techniques:

Chest physiotherapy involves a number of physical techniques to help remove excess mucus from respiratory passages and improve breathing. The goal is to help patients breathe more freely and get more oxygen through the bloodstream into all parts of the body.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed to address both the physical and emotional issues associated with chronic lung diseases and pulmonary conditions, including:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Emphysema
  • Before and after surgery for lung cancer or a lung transplant
  • Chronic bronchitis

Our Physiotherapist, Poonam is specialized in conducting detailed Respiratory assessments and prescribing a goal-oriented treatment plan.
